TOURNAMENT REGULATION
1) DRAW OF SECTORS AND PLACES
Sectors shall be five (5), each of them marked as Α, Β,C, D, E.
Boxes in each Sector will be numbered with serial numbering, with an equal number of places per Sector if possible.
EXAMPLE
With 35 couples participating, each Sector shall have 7 boxes (5 Sectors Χ 7 couples each = 35 places)
With 38 couples participating, the positions of the Sectors will be as follows: Sectors Α, Β, C with 8 places each (3 Χ 8 = 24) and Sectors D, Ε with 7 places (2 Χ 7=14) Total 24 plus 14 = 38 couples.
Each box will be 30 meters long and couples must place their fishing rods in the middle of the distance, where the indicative number will also be located.
EXAMPLE
15m. _______________NUMBER________________15 m.
2) FISHING EQUIPMENT
Each participant may fish using two (2) fishing rods, therefore each couple may fish with four (4) rods.
If a participant is fishing alone, he may still use four (4) fishing rods.
The minimum length of a fishing rod is 3.5 meters and maximum is 5 meters.
Fishing rods must bear at least three rings on their length, and one on top.
There is no restriction as to the number of backup rods that an participant may have open.
Backup rods must not have traces and the tip of the backup rod must not point towards the sea.
Permitted traces in the competition must have up to three single hooks.
The minimum size of hooks must be such as having a 5mm opening from the spike to trunk, and the relative measurement will be taken by a special cylinder to be provided to all participants by the tournament Secretariat to enable them to check whether their hooks are qualified.
There is no restriction to the number of traces that participants can keep baited and ready to use, in no case however should they be attached to their backup rods.
There is no restriction as to the length of the hook line
It is permitted to use on the hook line, attractive materials in such as shiny spoons, coloured and/or shiny pearls, colored floating or other pearls (maximum size 15mm), colored feathers, fluorescent materials etc.
There is no restriction as to the type and shape of leads to be used, the only type of lead prohibited being the ground baits leads.
Minimum permitted weight of lead is 50 grams.
3) BAITS
Baits should be strictly natural.
The types of baits will be two kinds of worms which have been tested with good returns and their quantity is the free choice for each competitor:
The use of strongly smelling enhancing material is prohibited.
The use of ground baits, before or during the competition, is also prohibited.
Use of smell-enhancing materials and/or ground baits by a participant will result in disqualification.
4) MANDATORY FISHING EQUIPMENT
1.- Ruler, with which participants will measure their fish. RULERS WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE ORGANIZER, FREE OF CHARGE
2.- Suitable accessory to safely unhook the fish.
3.- Small towel to be used by participants in order to take hold of fish, which (towel) must be wet when used.
4.- A bucket where all fish will be placed immediately after being caught, and until they are registered for the first time. BUCKETS WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE ORGANIZER, FREE OF CHARGE.
5.- Special container where all fish will be put immediately after first registration and until cross-check by the tournament Committee. SPECIAL CONTAINERS WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE ORGANIZER, FREE OF CHARGE.
Buckets and special containers must be returned to the organizer after the end of the 2nd competition.
5) MEASURABLE FISH – SAFE RELEASE OF CATCHES
The goal for all participants is to SAFELY RELEASE ALL CATCHES BACK TO THE SEA.
ALL KINDS OF FISH are measurable, provided they are over 12 cm. Fish of exactly 12 cm will not be accounted for. Fish of 12.1 cm will be accounted for, and all measurements will be rounded up to the closest integer number (e.g. 12.1 will be registered as 13cm, and so on). It is self understood that fish of 11.9 cm will not be accounted for.
The procedure of measuring and releasing the fish is the following:
a) Participants catching fish smaller than 12.1 cm must IMMEDIATELY release them upon measuring them with their ruler.
b) Participants catching fish 12.1 cm or bigger, must place them, together with the trace, in their bucket which must be near the sea and filled with sea water renewed regularly in order to maintain sea temperature as much as possible.
c) After that, participants will wait for the person responsible for their Sector in order to take measurements and register the fish.
d) The person responsible will measure the length of the fish and note it down in the special form, then put it in the participant’s special container which must be placed at the back of his fishing box and filled with fresh sea water in order to keep the fish alive.
e) The measuring procedure must be quick, holding the fish with a wet towel or after the person responsible has wet his hands with sea water. It is prohibited to the responsible person and/or the participant to touch the fish if there is no wet towel or if they have not wet their hands with sea water, in order to avoid burns and mistreatment of the fish.
At the end of the competition, the Committee will go through all boxes and will cross-check fish entries.
After the cross-check, ALL LIVING FISH WILL BE RELEASED BACK TO THEIR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. Any non-living fish will be donated to local charitable institution.
6) TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE
The tournament Committee consists of five (5) members, and the cross-check MUST also be attended obligatory by one participant from each country, either voluntarily or upon draw.
7) SCORE
a) Each measurable fish gets 10 points.
b) Each centimeter of measurable fish gets 1 point. Particularly as regards the following fish: conger,
ray, moray, garfish pike, each centimeter gets ½ point.
The aggregate of the above (a+b) constitutes the competitor’s score.
Example
Competitor Α
a) Caught 12 fish Χ 10 points each = 120 points
b) The TOTAL LENGTH of the 12 fish is 182 centimeters = 182 points
The aggregate of a) + b) is 120 + 182 = 302 points
If the result of the 302 points is the best then this competitor is the winner.
Mollusks and shellfish will not be accounted for and will be IMMEDIATELY released to their natural environment.
8) INDIVIDUAL CLASSIFICATION
The classification in each Sector will result upon comparing the final score of all competitors in the same Sector.
The winner of the Sector shall be the competitor with the highest score.
The final individual classification of competitors is based on the classification of each Sector.
Upon calculating the order of classification in each Sector, the competitors ranking first in each Sector will be compared between each other in order to occupy the first 5 places of the general classification, the second-ranking competitors of each Sector will be compared in order to occupy the places 6th to 10th , and so on.
For instance, assuming there are five (5) Sectors, athletes winning the 1st place in their Sector will occupy positions 1 through 5 in the general classification upon comparing their score. In this light, participants winning the 2nd place in their Sector will occupy positions 6 through 10, and so on.
9) ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS – EQUAL SCORES
The winning couple of the tournament shall be the one with the smallest aggregate of places in the two competitions.
EXAMPLE
Couple Α occupies the 3rd place of the general classification in the first competition, and the 5th place of the general classification in the second competition.
The places aggregate of couple A is 3 + 5 = 8.
If aggregate 8 is the smallest one among all couples, then couple A shall be the winner of the tournament, and so on.
In case of equal scores, the best position will be awarded to the couple which has occupied the highest place in any of the two competitions.
EXAMPLE
Couple Α has an aggregate of 8 (places 3 and 5 = 8)
Couple Β has an aggregate of 8 (plaves 2 and 6 = 8)
The winning couple shall be couple B which has taken the 2nd position compared to the 3rd position occupied by couple A.
If there also is equal score in positions, the winner will be the couple with the biggest fish (longest).
Example
Couple Α has an aggregate of 8 (positions 3 + 5 = 8) and their biggest fish is 25 cm.
Couple Β has an aggregate of 8 (positions 5 +3 = 8) and their biggest fish is 22 cm.
The winning couple shall be couple Α, whose biggest fish is 25 cm, compared to the biggest fish of couple B which is 22 cm.
If there is also equal score in the biggest fish, the winner will be the couple with the least fish, notably the biggest.
Finally, in case of completely equal scores, then both couples will occupy the same place and the immediately subsequent position will not be given to any couple.
The classification of couples with no fish will be given as follows:
1.- We add all other places in the table after the last couple with catches.
2.-This means that we add all places in the table corresponding to couples without any catches.
3.- This aggregate will be divided by the number of couples without catches.
4.- The number that will result shall give the place of all these couples in the classification table. If a fraction results, such number will be rounded up to the nearest integer number.
Example
24 couples participate in the tournament.
16 of them have occupied a place in the classification table (places 1 through 16), and the other 8 couples did not catch any fish.
We add all places after the 16th, notably from the 17th through (and including) the 24th: 17+18+19+20+21+22+23+24 = 164
We divide the aggregate of 164 by the number of couples without catches, 164:8 = 20.5.
We round up to the nearest integer number, which is 21.
All couples without catches will occupy the 21st place.
10) PROHIBITIONS – REASONS FOR CANCELLATION
It is prohibited to pollute the sea and the environment with any kind of garbage, plastic, paper, CIGARETTE BUTTS.
The organizer will provide all participants with garbage bags and ashtrays (for smokers), free of charge.
